Here's a waterjet that carves it's way on the 'water' pools of Novus. So, what if Novus (the planet) is in an unstable phase of forming itself; kinda like if we arrived on earth before its surface had all formed and stabilized. So, surface signs could be seen like sulfuric or volcanic eruptions... anything to give the idea that  it's unstable and unsafe.
